Against the Law

jhpg11258531Today I was sitting reading Exodus, in my daily strive to read the whole bible in 100 days (pray for me:), and I found it very interesting to notice a piece of the story that had never stuck out to me before.
So the Egyptians are trying to weed out the powerful Israelites and they come up with this idea of having the midwives kill off all of the Hebrew baby boys that they help deliver.  The midwives’ response to this was amazing and so brave in Exodus 1:17 (NLV), ” But because the midwives feared God, they refused to obey the king’s orders.  They allowed the boys to live, too.”

Can you imagine?  First of all, your a woman back in the day and that comes with its own barriers all by itself.  Secondly, you have a huge responsibility of playing the role of today’s Dr. and assisting during childbirth, which I can imagine was very stressful!  What is so courageous is that these women did not let the law of the king stop them from doing what they knew was the right thing to do.  This fear and love for their REAL King dominated the law of the Egyptian king.  They stood up for what they believed in as women, mothers, and Dr’s.  This story (unlike others in the bible) makes me so proud to be a woman of God!

As church planting wives, and women of God in general, we are going to have to painfully stand up for what is right even when we know others are going to give us crap for it, especially if we are breaking the law (and I am not encouraging this:).  Be revolutionary women of God, don’t look at the circumstances around you, and take a stand for the King of Kings!

I AM a church planter and loved your insight. I also have a tremendous way of helping other church planters. He that winneth souls is wise.

  • This made me smile because as woman it’s hard but, when your a “church planters wife”! WOW, if someone would have warned me what we were in for. What an incrediable life changing, FAITH SHAKING journey. But, what an honor to be the example and to stand for what is right and good…There is no greater reward than to know God’s got your back!
