We are partnering with our local community foodbank. So starting last Sunday, and every Sunday until SuperBowl Sunday, Feb. 1st, 2009 - we’ve been collecting cans of soup for “Souper Bowl Sunday”.
We ask people to bring their cans of soup to the church on Sunday mornings, and tape a “loonie” ($1 Canadian coin) or a “toonie” ($2 Canadian coin) at the top of each coin. Then a family can buy some crackers to eat with their can of soup. This is a great way to get the church involved with the local community food bank. We’ve been getting involved in this endeavour for a couple of years now, and the participation level has increased each year, which is great!
